The Non-gmo certification ensures the consumer that Monte Vêneto uses non-transgenic raw material in its line of products. The certification is obtained through a quality system that intakes several steps, such as collaborators training, regular inspections held by a specialized company (Foodchain ID), besides the genetic analysis tests made on the manufactured products.
Transgenic are genetically modified organisms, in other words genes from other organisms are added to them through methods that wouldn’t occur naturally. The genetic modifications can even occur in organisms from different species, such as the insertion of a virus gene in a plant, for example.
Several correlated risks are linked to the consumption of food with transgenic ingredients, such as the increase of allergies, bigger resistance to antibiotics. Not to mention the harm it causes to the environment, like higher uses of pesticides which is correlated to higher resistance of pests and volunteer plants due to the insertion of resistance genes and pesticides in cultivated species.
